Dan Walker outlines the origins of this Mass.

This Mass grew out of several conversations with the LEC Artistic Director Michelle Leonard and our shared desire to write a liturgical work that would be appropriate for the G is for Gloria concert, while truly showcasing the strengths of the Leichhardt Espresso Chorus. The inclusion of instrumental superstars Sydney Brass added an enjoyable element to the composition process, allowing me to create some rather large sounding sections within the work and some very delicate moments of reverence. I am not a religious person at all, though as a chorister I have become very familiar with the liturgy and understand the gravitas that a Mass setting often carries with it. One of the challenges I faced was to not be led down the garden path of mimicking existing settings. This Mass is an uplifting work, is wholly positive and hopefully a joy to sing. I feel on many levels the world has lost its way, and that we very often forget what a privilege it is to live, even fleetingly, on this planet that many of us take for granted. In this time I think we all could use a little rescuing.
