Alice Chance is a fast-emerging young composer with a passion for choral singing and writing. The Leichhardt Espresso Chorus has commissioned a number of works from her, including Christmas Carols Three Kings and Prayer for Harmony (premiered at Carols on Norton in 2012); and the Aesop’s Fables Suite (2013). She also composed Coalescence, incidental music for our V is for Venice concert in 2014.
Alice’s work has also been performed by ensembles such as Sydney Youth Orchestras (where she was a composer in residence in 2012) and the Australian Youth Choir.
She has performed her own Viola da Gamba (a baroque predecessor to the cello) composition, O Pastor Animarum at the Sydney Opera House as part of the HSC 2011 ENCORE series – this piece has also been performed by The Marais Project and broadcast on national radio.
In 2013, Alice was composer in residence at the Moorambilla Festival in Coonamble. She has also been composer in residence for The Sydney Children’s Choir.
During 2013, her works were premiered by The Sydney Conservatorium Early Music Ensemble, Waverley College Junior School, Maribella Womens A Capella and the MLC School Chamber Choir on their tour of the USA.
During her second year of a Bachelor of Music Composition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music she was recently awarded the 2012 Ignaz Friedman Memorial Prize for academic merit in Composition.
