Enigma Quartet

String Quartet

Launched in 2006, the Enigma Quartet is one of the most dynamic ensembles to emerge from the Classical scene in Australia. These four young and exceptionally talented musicians are passionate about chamber music and are devoted to communicating this through the experience of live performance.

After welcoming cellist Rowena Macneish into the group in 2011, the quartet won second prize in the prestigious Sydney Eisteddfod Musica Viva Chamber Music Award 2011. Enigma has been invited to perform a Coffee Concert for the 2013 Musica Viva concert season in Sydney.

In addition to their own concert series in Sydney and Port Macquarie, the quartet has recently performed at the Vivid Live festival in Sydney and the Pearl Beach Music Festival. They have performed concerts for Musica Viva in Newcastle and at alternative live music venue The Standard in Taylor Square. They have been broadcast across Australia for Sunday Live on ABC Classic FM in 2012 and 2008, and recently played and were interviewed by Emma Ayres as part of her Classic Breakfast show. In 2012 the quartet have also enjoyed playing free concerts for patrons of the Wayside Chapel in Kings Cross and Sacred Heart in Darlinghurst.
Since its inception Enigma has performed several concerts at the Art Gallery of NSW as part of their Sunday Lunchtime Series. In 2008 they were invited as guest artists for the North Canterbury Academy of Music’s 25th Anniversary celebrations in Rangiora, also giving a number of concerts in New Zealand’s South Island. They have performed at the Australia Day celebrations, Hunter Baille Spring Festival as well as appearing in a major retrospective concert at the Conservatorium to honour Polish composer Karol Szymanowski.

Enigma will accompany the Leichhardt Espresso Chorus in its Magnificat Concert on 14 April 2013.
